According to the first information, the fires broke out almost simultaneously and the situation is deteriorating due to the very strong winds, which blow in the northeastern Aegean from noon.
Although there was a forecast of fire danger for Wednesday (9/9), the disaster did not take long to occur.
One front is near Xirolimni, on the old road Vatoussa - Skalochori, with the fire brigade operating at the spot in order to protect the Rhodes Cheese Factory
There is, however, a second front, towards Antissa.
All available firefighting vehicles from Kalloni have been activated, while forces are rushing from Mytilene.
The Commander of the Fire Service, Konstantinos Theofilopoulos, goes directly to the area to coordinate the operation, as does the Mayor, Taxiarhis Verros, who has given the order for water waggons to assist.
Shortly before midnight, a large fire broke out in the area of Moria above the KYT (Reception and Identification Center) and specifically in Agios Dimitrios.
According to local media, shops are also threatened by the flames
